Winnipeg Ember FC Unveils Official Name, Crest and Colours Ahead of Inaugural 2027 Season

Manitoba's first professional women's soccer club introduces a bold new identity inspired by Winnipeg's resilience, its community spirit and the colours of the prairie sky.
WINNIPEG, MB, November 4, 2026: Winnipeg's Northern Super League (NSL) club officially unveiled its name, crest and colours today at The Forks. Winnipeg Ember FC, the first professional women's soccer team in Manitoba, celebrates a new era in sport ahead of the club's inaugural 2027 season.

Inspired by the glow of the prairie sky at first light and last light, Winnipeg Ember FC represents the strength, warmth and determination of a city that shows up early, stays late and never lets the light dim.

The club's new identity celebrates Winnipeg: its resilience, its unwavering sense of community and its belief in what is possible when people come together.

The brand reveal follows the NSL's July announcement naming Winnipeg its seventh club and first expansion team, and the unveiling of plans for a new purpose-built modular stadium at the Ralph Cantafio Soccer Complex, bringing the city one step closer to welcoming its own professional women's soccer team.

"Winnipeg is at its best when we come together; sport has an incredible ability to do that and this city has never been shy about showing up for its teams," said Dayna Spiring, President of Winnipeg Ember FC. "An ember is the light at the edge of the day, the first glow over the horizon and the last one to leave. Today this club has a name, a crest and a story that is uniquely ours. Next season, there will be a team on the pitch and a stadium full of fans, and I can't wait to hear this city howl."

A BOLD NEW IDENTITY ROOTED IN WINNIPEG
An ember is the glow at the edge of the day: the first light over the horizon in the morning and the last light before the sun dips out of sight. On the prairies, that light shows up early and stays late. It's the foundation for the club's name, crest and colour palette.

At the centre of the crest is the Sundog. It takes its name from the sundogs that appear on either side of the sun on the coldest, clearest prairie days when sunlight passes through ice crystals high in the sky.

Sundogs never leave the sun's side. They are protectors and they always appear in pairs. The club's Sundog is its own prairie legend inspired by that phenomenon: a guardian of the light that runs the horizon at first light and last light. Hidden within the design is a subtle "W," a nod to the city at the heart of the club.

The crest also features a star, representing the morning star and its connection to the first light of day. Rendered in the same sharp, angular style, the Sundog and star read as one visual identity rooted in the Manitoba sky.

LET THEM HOWL
The club's tagline, Let Them Howl, carries two stories, both proudly Manitoban. From the Sundog: when the Sundog howls, Winnipeg answers. It's also a nod to Manitoba's own Nellie McClung, a trailblazer who led a movement that first gave women in Manitoba the right to vote in 1916. Her advice still rings true: "Never retract, never explain, never apologize; get the thing done and let them howl."

Fans are invited to join the call with #GrowTheGlow, because an ember grows brighter the more people get behind it. Every fan, player, partner and Founding Ember adds to the glow.

COLOURS INSPIRED BY MANITOBA'S PRAIRIE SKIES
Winnipeg Ember FC's colour palette comes straight from the Manitoba sky, capturing the prairie light that holds through the longest dark and is always ready at first light. Read one way, the palette is a prairie sunrise. Read the other way, it's the sunset.

The club's five official colours are:

  • Midnight Dusk: The deep colour of the sky after the last light and before the first. It's the dark that makes the glow visible.
  • Violet Haze: The band of violet that settles over the horizon in the minutes before sunrise and after sunset.
  • Destroyer Pink: The boldest moment of a prairie sky, when the light transitions and the whole sky lights up at once. It also carries the nickname of co-founder Desiree Scott, "the Destroyer."
  • Sunset Blush: The soft pink that catches the clouds and the snow at the edges of the day.
  • Ember Glow: The gold on the horizon line, where the sun meets the land. This is the ember itself.

Together, the colours create a high-contrast, energetic identity that reflects the club's confidence, competitive spirit and deep connection to Manitoba.

BUILDING A LEGACY FOR THE NEXT GENERATION
The club is led by President Dayna Spiring and co-founders Desiree Scott, Vice President of Community and Player Experience, and Rob Gale, Chief Sporting Officer. Together, they're committed to creating opportunities for women and girls to pursue their ambitions in sport at the highest professional level, while building a lasting legacy for the city.

"I learned this game chasing my big brother around the backyard, and when it was time to play professionally, I had to leave home to do it," said Desiree Scott, co-founder and Vice President of Community and Player Experience. "The next generation won't have to. Every young girl who picks up a ball in this province gets to grow up watching Ember FC under the same sky I did, and she'll know there's a place for her to compete at the highest level, right here at home."

As the club prepares for its first season in 2027, Winnipeg Ember FC will continue building connections with local players, families, supporters and community partners, creating opportunities for more Manitobans to experience professional women's soccer and become part of the club's story.
